Officials have temporarily closed Laurel Lake in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, due to elevated bacteria levels. The closure was announced on Wednesday (August 12) by Pine Grove Furnace State Park through social media, stating that the beach at Laurel Lake Day Use Area is closed for swimming until the water quality improves.
The state park has not provided an estimate for when the lake might reopen. However, Fuller Lake, which is also part of the state park, remains open for swimmers.
PennLive reported that the closure affects those planning late-summer swimming trips before the school year begins.
Local21News emphasized that this closure could impact families looking for outdoor activities as summer comes to an end.
The park assures the public that Laurel Lake will reopen as soon as the water quality returns to acceptable levels.
